Clubbing for wellbeing

  • Do you often get overwhelmed in nightlife spaces?

  • Do you love going out but want to learn how it can be better for you?

  • Do you have ideas about how nightlife can be better for QTIPoC+?

  • Are you just curious about wellbeing in nightlife?

Wellbeing in nightlife is usually not something that is talked about or promoted, and nightlife spaces are usually experienced differently depending on who we are.
The Coalition for Racial Equality and Rights (CRER) produced a report last year examining Black and minority ethnic people's experiences of racism within Scotland's night-time economy, while the project primarily focused on race, it also included intersectional considerations regarding people's gender identity and sexuality. This research revealed that within Black and minority ethnic experiences, Queer people of colour had more negative experiences in nightlife. Therefore, CRER and Exhale are coming together to deliver this event on wellbeing in nightlife spaces for QTIPoC+.

This event will feature workshops to help you find new practices to ground and take care of yourself in nightlife spaces, with a workshop on sober partying from local DJ Luckybabe, and ‘deep listening’ workshop by Nat (DJ Fluffie). Through discussions and taking part in the workshops we will build a collective vision to create a fairer and safer nightlife economy for QTIPoC+.

Lucien from CRER, and Mahasin from Exhale will take notes during discussions and come up with a written output and a set of recommendations for nightlife spaces to implement, which will be actively campaigned for by CRER through strategic policy lobbying and wider campaigning.
